Opinion Essay: My Ideal Family

About 50 years ago the model of an “ideal family” was different than what people would call an ideal family today. Before the ideal family for the most people was 2 parents, with that I mean mother and father, not homosexual parents, and two or three children. Since those times many things changed. Today you cannot say what is the real ideal family like before anymore. There are many different models of an ideal family or to say it in another way nearly everyone has their own view and opinion from a model of an ideal family.

My opinion of an ideal family is the “normal” one, which should consist of a father, mother and children. I call it the normal one because normally to make children you need a woman and a man. Furthermore it used to be normal when I was a about 5 or 6 years old, but maybe I have this opinion because I did not know any other types of families when I was that age. Anyway, this is the ideal family in my opinion. The parents should live together and should be married and should have one to three children.

For me this is the ideal family and it should have this set up. I think this set up is important for the whole family because it is the model of family, which still can be seen most in Austria. For example if parents have problems with their children it is easier to get good help from other parents or psychologists because just most families are set up like this. Another good aspect why this family set up is the best is because the children just need a father, a mother and a brother or sister. The father is important for the son because he can be the idol of the boy and can show and teach him things a mother cannot do. The same is with the mother and daughter. The child doesn’t really need a brother or a sister but I would be better if he or she had because then the parents would have some more time for them selves if they don’t have to keep on playing with the child and furthermore it would be far less boring at home.

But this doesn’t mean that all family members would live in harmony with each other.

Of course there can be trouble between them too. For example if a child gets a present or something like that the brother or sister can be quickly jealous, what can lead to contentious between the family members.

There also can be good times beside the bad ones. The family members also can held each other and I think a holiday trip would make much more fun with more children than with one or without any.

To sum up I think in my ideal family there can be on the one hand good times and on the other hand bad times. But that is not the fault of this type of family, that’s just how life is. In every type of family there are good and bad times.
